CRISPR-based diagnostics

An important application of CRISPR-Cas enzymes in diagnostics is the detection of specific pathogens or diseases. For example, diagnostic tests based on CRISPR-Cas enzymes have already been developed for the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Diagnostic tests based on CRISPR-Cas can generally be developed as easy-to-use, highly sensitive lateral flow assays (rapid tests).
